Butaro Hospital Workers Form Collective

MASS Design Group‘s brief monthly update today profiled yet another extraordinary outcome of its acclaimed Butaro Hospital: The creation of “COTCR” or the Cooperative of Technicians & Constructors of Rwinkwavu. The cooperative was founded by a group of 11 members from the original Butaro site crew.

The cooperative, founded in 2011, is now at work on the Rwinkwavu NICU construction site in Rwanda, one of several projects that MASS has under construction. “Highlighting the benefits of the community-based construction approach, they have been mentoring the other members of the site crew, transferring marketable skills to other members of the community,” MASS reports.
